Fifteen children will lead the worship service when they present a musical composed by their director, Tom Shelton, at Princeton United Methodist Church (PrincetonUMC) on Sunday, February 24, at 10 a.m. “Lost Then Found,” Shelton’s collaboration with Camilla Pruitt, is based on three parables – the Lost Coin, the Lost Sheep, the Lost Son.

Shelton, director of Children’s and Youth Choirs at PrincetonUMC, is nationally known as a composer and director. He is associate professor of sacred music at Westminster Choir College of Rider University, associate director of Princeton Girlchoir, and national president of the American Choral Directors Association. Pruitt is director of music at Trinity United Methodist Church in Huntsville, Alabama.

For the Princeton Girlchoir, he directs two ensembles – Grace Notes and SemiTones. Last year he led nine choral workshops in six states. His portfolio (TomSheltonMusic.net) includes 18 commissioned works, more than 40 songs for children or treble voices, and 15 pieces for mixed or adult voices. In addition to his many other honors, duties, and publications, Tom has begun the new Tom Shelton Choral Series

The beauty of Christian music comes alive when children and youth feel what the lyrics say, according to Shelton. Children enter wide-eyed and curious and become as musical and global citizens. New singers, ages 3 to high school, are always welcome. In the choir are children from Belle Mead, Cranbury, Princeton, Manalapan, Princeton Junction, Ewing, Skillman, and Trenton.

Located at the corner of Nassau Street and Vandeventer Avenue, PUMC is a diverse congregation whose members come from many surrounding communities, backgrounds, and faiths (ww.princetonumc.org or 609-924-2613).
